Rain Soaked Garden

by Cynthia on August 21, 2008

It has been raining for the last three days now. This morning while there was a break in it I stepped outside to check on the garden and was able to get a few pictures of all the rain soaked plants.

This is my Rose de Rescht that I love so much. It is having a second bloom right now and the fragrance is intoxicating.

I love how green everything looks after it rains and this orange mint was just glowing.

My poor Moonbeam Coreopsis. It is all flattened after the hard rain we have had. Im sure it will pick back up though once the rain lets up.

My bunnytail grass is really soaked and the little bunny tails look just like wet fur

I just recently planted this little Campanula called white clips in a terra cotta pot. I just love the blooms. They look like little fairy hats.

What isnt there to love about Japanese Maples? They do so well up here in the Northwest too. In fact Oregon is the number one producer of them.

This is a shot looking up through my Japanese Maple. As you can see there is more rain on the way.

Tomorrow it is suppose to be sunny again and I hope the forecast is right as I have 3 kids that are getting a little bit cooped up! And their mother has plenty of garden work she needs to get done. I must say though that I have enjoyed the break in watering! Watering all of my containers everyday can get a little old by August.

Wow, I love the bunnytail grass! I have never heard of that before. Great pictures. Hope the sun is shining for you tomorrow.

Thank you Laurie! The bunnytail is an annual am I am going to save seed from it as I just love it. The tops are soft like a bunny’s tail too! So cute. :) -Cynthia

That bunnytail grass is so cute even soaked. I have actually had to continue watering my containers down here, because even though it’s raining, it’s not raining enough to be of any help at all. Sigh.

Hi Lacey, that is always frustrating. I haven’t been watching the radar today so I don’t know if the rain is heading South or not (I do believe you are South of me…) but it does not appear to be done over here yet. -Cynthia

A break in watering is always wonderful. It leaves time for other pursuits. It’s supposed to rain here for the next three days. I sure hope so since we’re going to be headed off to MIL’s house and could use the help with plant watering! It does need to stop when we’re ready for more shed work though, we’ve got a whole lot of painting left to do!

Your flowers look so happy. I’ve never heard of bunny tail grass before, it’s very cute and aptly named. How are the blackberries? I hope you don’t get any nasty beestings when you’re out innocently picking berries. YOUCH!

Hi Cinj, I will try to send the rain out your way so you do not have to worry about watering for a few days! :) I read about your run in with the grumpy bee on your blog today. I hope you start to feel better. I guess he didn’t want to share the blackberries with you. Our blackberries are still going strong, in fact I am going to picking more tomorrow if it is indeed sunny. -Cynthia

I love the way your plants look all dripping wet after the rain. Nice post.

Thank you Deb! I’m glad you enjoyed it. :) -Cynthia

I love the way plants look with raindrops. That rose is absolutely gorgeous and the Campanula ‘White Clips’ is absolutely beautiful. They look like little fairy hats to me too! :)

I love the rain drenched plants as well PGL. That was why I ran out when I could today. The garden always looks so different after a good rain. That particular rose is one of my favorites because of how wonderful it smells. I just love campanulas and when I saw that this one is a dwarf I snatched it up. -Cynthia

I think I’m going to have to choose a good Japanese maple for my parking strip garden, to replace the awful crabapples. Do you know your variety? There are so many, it’s hard to choose… I can’t decide between one that has yellow foliage in the fall or one of the red ones, or a purply one like yours. They’re all so beautiful!?!

Hi Karen,
I think a Japanes maple would be perfect to replace your crabapples! I do not know the variety of the one pictured above as it was given to me when a relative moved. I have four Japanese maples all growing in containers and I just love them. I would recommend the book
Japanese Maples by J.D. Vertrees if you are interested in what to grow. It is a beautiful book that I bought awhile back and I love just flipping through it looking at all the beautiful pictures. -Cynthia
