I contacted Horizon Herb by email and asked them about it. They are an excellent herbal seed/plant supplier in Oregon. Their catalog is HUGE and I love just flipping through it because it is so full of information. I knew if anyone could help me solve this plant mystery they could.
So, I sent them an email and they responded in less than 24 hours (I was so impressed). They suggested it may be Cow Parsnip and enclosed a link for me to follow for more information. I wanted to slap myself upside the head when I read Cow Parsnip.
One of the reasons that plant has been driving me so crazy is because I just knew I knew it. Like it was on the tip of my tongue but I couldn’t spit it out. Like when you forget the name of a song but you just know you know it, that sort of feeling has been plaguing me since I spotted this plant flowering.
And isn’t it ironic that I should find it flowering right at the edge of my herb garden when some consider it such a useful plant. From what I have read it is a rather interesting herb being edible as well as medicinal. The flowers are pretty on it and actually have a rather sweet smell to them.
I think I am going to keep it right where it is for now while I research some more on it. Although, it sure makes me wonder how it found its home by the side of my house.
