Nervous Yet Excited
Dec 8th, 2008 by Cynthia
I am beyond nervous! I have thought about doing something like this for quite awhile now and finally decided to give it a go.
Right now the items I am focused on selling are for cloth diapered babies. For those that do not have small children you may not know that there has been a cloth diaper revolution going on online for a few years now. Cloth diapering is nothing like it used to be. One can find all sorts of cute cloth diapers out there these days.
When my daughter was born 2 years ago I began knitting wool diaper covers for her. These are nothing new or original as years past this is what families would use for their cloth diapered baby before rubber and plastic pants came around. Currently wool diaper covers are gaining popularity as people grow more and more concerned for the environment.
To ensure that this post does not sound like an advertisement for wool diaper covers I am recommending this link to anyone that would like to read more about the benefits of diapering with wool.
Even though right now I am focusing on knitting and selling wool diaper covers, I hope to in time expand and include some hand-knit handbags, clothing, and maybe even some of my hand-dyed yarns.
Each piece I make is truly a labor of love. For anyone interested in viewing the shop the link can be found here. I would love any feed back from my readers so I welcome comments. Below is a picture of one of the items I have for sell just to give everyone an idea. I can’t begin to say how nail biting this day has been for me!
Oh, and what might the name of my new shop be? Why Brambleberry Boutique of course!
The very best of luck to you on your new endeavor! Jean
Thank you so much Jean. -Cynthia
Yes, best of luck with the new business!
Thank you Amanda. I really appreciate it! -Cynthia
I love the colours you chose! I really admire you for taking the plunge and doing this Cynthia. I’ve been talking for months about trying to have my own shop online, but haven’t quite gotten there yet. I can totally understand why you would be so nervous!
Thank you Amy! I have mulled this idea around in my head for about a year but never worked up the courage to go for it until now. This morning when I officially “opened” I was beyond nervous. Knowing people are out there looking at my handiwork is quite imtimidating to say the least!
As for you, I say go for it as you have shown on your blog you make some really cute stuff and are very creative! -Cynthia
My granddaughter is going to be born on the 18th. I’ll tell my expectant daughter about these.
Brenda
Hi Brenda,
Congratulations on the up coming birth of your granddaughter! That is right around the corner. How exciting!
I sure appreciate you saying you will tell your daughter about my diaper covers. That is just so sweet of you. I can’t even find the words to tell you just how much that gesture means to me. -Cynthia
You do such a lovely job — I’m sure these will be very popular with the diapered set. Best of luck with the shop!
Thank you so much Nancy. I hope you are right and they will be popular! -Cynthia
I don’t know why you’re nervous, the stuff you’ve knit is adorable, not to mention really well done! Good luck on your new adventure!
Thank you Fern! This comment means so much to me. It is so nice to hear such positive feedback from my readers. -Cynthia
You are right, I have never heard of them. I can’t seem to get my married youngin to have a grandchild for me and my grand-dog won’t wear them…so how about you make a few little lambs out of the scraps! I want a sage green one! Good luck with the venture…I am certain it will be a big hit.
Thank you for the well wishes Anna.
Do you mean you want a knitted wool lamb? I don’t think I’ve ever had anyone request that from me before! -Cynthia
Wow, congrats! You do beautiful work with your needles as well as in your garden. I’m sad that I can’t buy anything, but when you branch out into other stuff beyond the diapers I’ll be so excited to see what else you add! Hope you have great sales!
Thank you Karen! I hope I get great sales too!
I’m taking it slow right now but I do hope to include more things in time. Right now I am just feeling everything out. -Cynthia
Good luck with your new venture.
Warm regards
Karen
Thank you Karen, I truly do appreciate it. -Cynthia
Congratulations & good luck. Can just imagine how cute the babies would be wearing these lovely little trousers.
Thank you Barbara. They are so cute in these. Everytime my daughter wears the ones I have made for her we get complements. Plus I just love a cloth diapered baby. They seem more rollie pollie and cuddly in a cloth diaper. But that is just my humble opinion. -Cynthia
Kudos to you Cynthia for taking this leap! Best wishes with your online store. Great name! (oh & the merchandise is adorable)
Thank you Racquel! I just had to use Brambleberry Boutique after how well received the name for this blog has been. Plus I just liked the way it sounded! I always have liked the way “boutique” sounds. -Cynthia
Ohhh good for you! I hope it is a grand sucess! I had thought about doing a stand alone boutique but opted for etsy because I just don’t think I would have the time if I had to run the site myself. I admire you for taking the plunge!
BTW. Those longies would be cute for little boys say…18-24 months, love the one in your post here! Kim
Thank you Kim. I did not know you have an etsy store. I must have missed it somehow because I would have checked it out had I known about it! I also like the longie in my post- I think it is my favorite so far! -Cynthia
Best of luck with your new store - the work you do is adorable. =)
Thank you so much Anne-Marie! And thank you for visiting my blog! -Cynthia
Cynthia,
This is great news! I wish you the best of luck with your new store. I will keep checking back and see how you are doing and what you have added. Wish my Granddaughter was a bit younger so she could wear some of these….
I know I’m a bit late but haven’t been on the computer much this past few weeks. I have been under the weather and busy with holiday plans.
Your Boutique looks great!
~Karyn
Hi Karyn-
Thank you so much! I really do appreciate your kind words. It seems we are all very busy right now doesn’t it! I am struggling to find time for this blog this week with all that I have going on. There is not enough hours in the day! -Cynthia
Hi Cynthia - I know your fabric craft leans more to the knitting side, but in case you are even in the mood to sew, I was browsing a fabric gallery today and saw this print. It totally made me think of you! Don’t you think these are cosmos, or at least cosmos-inspired? http://www.sewmamasew.com/ccp0-prodshow/TFMGPK.html
Hi Karen,
Oh, those definitely look like Cosmos to me! How pretty too. I can just see them made into a purse or even an apron. I do like to sew and love to look at all the different types of fabric there are out there. If only I had all the time to do everything I want to do!
Thanks for the link. -Cynthia
