Yarn Along: August 31

by Cynthia

Joining Ginny today for Wednesday’s Yarn Along over at Small Things.

Wow! It has already been three weeks since I have posted my last Yarn Along post. Time flies when you are busy trying to buy a house and uproot your family to another state!

I have not been able to work on my knitting as much as I would like because of how busy we have been. I have been able to make some progress on my second Rainbow Dress for Ariella but it has been slow and sporadic. I so look forward to when life slows down and I can leisurely knit the weekend away if I desire! My hands are itching to keep knitting and it has been more than a bit unnerving to not be able to. After knitting for close to 10 years now I have learned that I depend on it to calm me down and even clear my thoughts. Some of my best brainstorming has been done with knitting needles and yarn in hand. I cannot wait to settle into a knitting rhythm again once the house buying phase is over.

As far as reading goes, I just the other day picked up The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I am not much of a movie goer but the previews to this movie caught my eye. I happen to fall in the category that believes the book is always better than the movie so I decided to skip the movie and go straight with the novel. So far it has not disappointed and I am really enjoying getting to know the characters.

I am also reading Homeschooling the Child with Autism. This year I am officially beginning Ariella’s homeschool. Even though I just got through homeschooling Logan (our 12 year old) throughout all but one of his elementary school years I am finding myself intimidated and overwhelmed when it comes to homeschooling a child with Autism. I would recommend this book to anyone that is new to homeschooling, new to what Autism is, and to friends and family of someone who is considering homeschooling their autistic child. It really does a great job pointing out all the reasons we feel homeschooling is the best choice for our daughter.

It seems hard to believe that summer is wrapping up but I can sure feel it in the air. The mornings are cooler and the leaves are already changing color. I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer. I happen to be looking forward to fall very much and all the knitting it tends to bring!
