Revisiting an Old Post
Dec 6th, 2008 by Cynthia
As I had mentioned in that post, I began Brambleberries in the Rain to keep gardening separate from my knitting blog. However, now I find myself completely neglecting my knitting blog in favor of this one. I had no idea I would have this hard of a time keeping two blogs up to date!
After mulling it around for weeks now I think I have decided to merge the two into one. I have noticed several other gardening blogs that I enjoy doing the same thing right now with winter rapidly approaching.
It makes sense to me to keep a blog to one topic when it comes to appealing to the masses but I find myself missing blogging about all of my endeavors- not just the garden related ones. And besides, I find blogs with a wide variety to be very interesting. I started to think about why I blog in the first place. If I do not enjoy it then why bother, right?
Within the next few weeks I plan on merging my two blogs into one. Please bear with me as I work out the new feel and direction of Brambleberries in the Rain. I am sure the bulk of my content will always be garden based as that is what I enjoy writing about the most. It is just that from now on expect to see the mix of subjects found here broaden slightly.
Everyone is multi-faceted, so why shouldn’t our blogs, which are journals depicting our lives in some ways, not reflect that? I say go for it. I write about whatever is going on I feel is of any interest to others. That includes gardening, decorating, pets, news, remodeling, or whatever.
Brenda
Brenda,
I always enjoy reading your blog and because of it I began wondering if I could expand what I blog about here. I personally feel your blog is very interesting to read because it includes so many topics- as well as all the nice photos!
Thank you for your words of encouragement as they mean a lot! -Cynthia
I agree with Brenda, we all have many interests so why not combine them in one blog!
Thank you Racquel. I appreciate this comment right now. -Cynthia
It is difficult to keep two blogs going, one always seems to get more attention than the other. I enjoy multi-faceted blogs.
K
Hi Karen,
I have learned the hard way that it is VERY hard (at least for me!) to keep two blogs going! Thank you for stating that you too enjoy multi-faceted blogs as that is exactly what I need to hear! -Cynthia
If I had to stick with gardening and/or cooking in my kitchen garden blog, I’d probably run dry through about three months of the year! I think of mine as a group of friends around my kitchen table, discussing whatever is interesting to us at the time. Friends are multifaceted, blogs can be the same.
I love your take on this AG! In fact I always love the way you put things. That is why I enjoy your blog so much. Thank you for this comment as it is encouraging for the decision I have made. -Cynthia
Bravo! I say go for what inspires you, be that gardening, knitting, cooking, kid stuff, whatever. I’ll read it no matter what subject you choose on a given day!
Thank you Karen. Your comment has definitely put a smile on my face as well as encouraged me. See I am beaming! -Cynthia
I totally agree with combining the two subjects, even adding more, if possible. I have the same situation as you, where I really get into several subjects of interest at the same time. I do try my best to keep mine only about gardening, composting, outdoor building projects, growing various fruits, and food preserving…but there are others i’d like to blog about, as well.
EG
Hi EG,
Thank you for this comment as just like all the rest it is very helpful and encouraging. I personally really enjoy blogs that branch out. It makes the author of the blog more interesting and almost more personal. If you have other things you would like to blog about I would encourage you to go for it as well. It truly does seem to make the blog more interesting…. at least in my opinion. -Cynthia
It is your blog…so blog away about what you love! If you love knitting and gardening…or knitting in the garden, then I think combining the two is a great idea!
I can’t wait to see the new made over blog! Kim
Hi Kim,
Thank you for the words of encouragement! Knitting in the garden….hmmm…. ya know I haven’t tried that one yet! Better wait for the rainy season to end though! -Cynthia
Of course you must know that I think this is a great idea I was really nervous about changing my blog around earlier in November, but the response has been overwhelmingly positive. I’ve even gotten a few new regular readers who like the variety of content. Leaving out all the other interests was hard for me, because in many ways they are very connected and tend to influence each other. I’m really looking forward to seeing your changes!
Thank you for this comment Amy. Seeing how well you transitioned your blog gave me that final push to make the change with mine. I had been contemplating it for awhile now but was unsure how the response would be. Just like you mentioned, leaving out my other interests was getting hard for me because my interests are very much connected too. My knitting/dyeing influences my gardening and my garden influences my cooking, etc., etc.
I hope the changes I make do not disappoint! -Cynthia
I can so relate, Cynthia. Since this is my first year blogging, and I started my blog in the summer when I was busy gardening, I didn’t give much thought to what I’d write about when winter rolled around. I find that I’m focusing more on other subjects now too. I’m not a knitter, but I am subbed to your blog and will be checking in regardless - I’m always interested in handmade and crafting, kids, cooking, etc.
I can completely relate jgh! I too, started this blog in the summer when I was in full swing with gardening but I never thought about what I would do once the rainy season hit up here. Thank you for the words of encouragement. It is nice to know my readers are so understanding. -Cynthia
I like learning what people are up to - and if you live in a cold climate for 5 months of the year - I think it’s natural that you’d have another interest that you’d want to share. I started back into knitting with the scarf project that I learned about online through botanical. I say, write about whatever drives your boat.
Hi Barbara,
I appreciate your comment and agree that it is fun learning what other people do outside of their gardening hobby. I think it is great that the scarf project got you knitting again! I absolutely love it myself. I find it to be very relaxing. -Cynthia
YAY! I can’t wait to see what else you have to share with us! Looking forward to continued reading.
Thank you Stephanie. It sure is nice to know that so many readers are encouraging me to go forward with this. -Cynthia
I think it’s nice to have them together. My blog is mainly nature related, but I cross over into kitchen, crafts, and other stuff too. I think most people enjoy those topics as well. I initially thought I’d separate them as well, but it was hard to keep up with mulitiple blogs. I look forward to seeing your new “look.”
Hi Michele,
Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving such a nice comment. I really thought I would be able to manage two blogs at once but I was very wrong. It was a good idea keeping them seperate at first but just not practical for me. I routinely kept putting off my other blog in favor of this one.
Once again thanks for this comment! -Cynthia
