Back past our backyard there are bare lots where someday new houses will be going in. They have been empty lots for the 2 ½ years we have lived in this house.
It absolutely amazes me how quickly Mother Nature will take over and fill in the bare earth. All sorts of plants have moved in and claimed these empty lots as their home. To name just a few there is mullein, red clover, pokeweed, thistle, and St. John’s wort.
But right now there are wild lupines blooming all over the vacant patches of earth. They are just so pretty. Last year I wanted to collect a few seeds from them but I was too slow. Around the middle of summer a plow came through knocking everything down. (They also tried to spray the pokeweed, but were unsuccessful as it is back with a vengeance this year.)
I was able to take these pictures of them while we had a break in the rain. The flowers are so much smaller than the kinds we grow in our gardens.
