Okay, I know all parents think their kids are great and love to brag about them but I just had to share what my 14 year old made us all for dinner tonight.

I’m so impressed. He made the pizza dough from scratch and used cherry tomatoes from our garden. Not bad for someone that just started learning how to make bread a few months ago!

A lot of his interest in cooking started when I picked up a cookbook from the library for him by a teenager named Sam Stern*.  The pizza dough recipe my son followed is from his book titled Cooking up a Storm.

*You can get to Sam Stern’s website by clicking here. It is pretty interesting to check out, especially if you have teenage sons that need to learn how to cook! :)

The pizza looks wonderful. I always love to see kids cooking things besides mac and cheese from a box. My son rarely cooks, but at least I’ve trained him how.

Hi Daphne, it was wonderful! We devoured it all, even the toddler gobbled it up. :) -Cynthia

The pizza looks great! Sounds like that library book inspired your son to cook. I try to get my boys in the kitchen when I’m cooking to help so they can learn how to do things.

Hi PGL, I think it is important to show them how to cook so I was pretty happy when the book caught his attention. Both my husband and I are big cooks so I guess they are also surrounded by it which I am sure helps too. -Cynthia

Yum! You have every reason to be proud. If my child made me dinner like that, I’d be on cloud 9. :-)

It is pretty nice to have him cooking for us. He also has made crepes from this book that are also very good. I can’t reccomend the book enough. -Cynthia

Trust me—you will be very glad he can cook when you send him off to college. I cried my eyes out that my child was probably starving and walking around wrinkled all the time. I felt horrible that my sons could not cook. So that is the first thing I thought of when I saw your son had cooked that—Bravo!!!

Thank you Anna. It does help though that he is an eager learner. :) What is nice too is that my 9 year old son sees his big brother cooking and wants to be like him and has been asking when can he make dinner too. -Cynthia
