Last week Faith from Lemonade Adventures so kindly awarded me with this interesting award and I feel quite honored to receive it. The award states, “You are a hard worker. Someone who takes the scrap out of life and builds things with it. Someone who has so much going on that others can see the evidence of it all around you. You are one who contributes mightily to life.” Now that is something I do not hear every day but truly appreciate! Thank you so much Faith.
As with most awards, the rules state that you must nominate 10 bloggers that are deserving of the award. I am sorry to say, but I must pass on that part of this award. I know it is really not playing fair and I apologize but my chicken self just cannot seem to nominate 10 blogs. I enjoy so many blogs and would hate to leave anyone out. I will however be a good sport and participate in the other half of this award that involves listing 10 things that your readers may not know about you. This part of the award sounded fun so here goes.
- I am the only one in my family of five that is left-handed. (That is of course if my 2 ½ year old daughter does not turn out to be. The jury is still out on that one!)
- I have been a vegetarian for the last 6 years. Health issues and animal welfare spawned my desire to become a vegetarian. Lately though I am reconsidering my diet and may change if I can find a local source of meat product that is raised and produced humanely.
- I have horrible allergies to everything it seems but the huge one is cats. Some people are deathly allergic to bee stings, well for me it is cats. And I hate it too. I cannot be near one without having a major asthma attack. It saddens me as I would love to have one for a pet. Instead I have two rabbits that I love to death.
- I believe my allergies and asthma help to spawn my interest in using herbs medicinally almost 20 years ago. I grew so tired of doctors and all the medications they would pump into me. Nothing helped my asthma, I only kept getting worse. I turned to other means of caring for my health and found it to be very empowering. Someday, when life and family (i.e. raising kids) permit it I plan on becoming a certified herbalist.
- I tend to be scatter brained with a million ideas swirling in my head at any given time.
- I am a major list person and am lost without them. (see #5)
- I am married to my high school sweetheart. It is kind of scary too. Whenever the two of us stop to think about it we are blown away that we have literally grown up together.
- I tend to be an insomniac (see #5) and my husband sounds like a broken record every night when he tells me to, “Try to get some sleep tonight.”
- I loved the Little House on the Prairie books when I was a child and sometimes wonder if I was born in the wrong century seeing that I love to do so many of the things that are mentioned throughout those books. But I do love the internet and indoor plumbing is very nice.
- I am dreadfully shy and writing this blog has been a huge challenge for me from day one. I like that it forces me outside of my comfort box and to be honest answering these questions was not at easy for me!
Once again thanks so much to Faith for passing this award on to me. She is truly deserving of this award and please be sure to visit her blog to find out for yourselves.

Hi Cynthia, I really enjoyed your post and what you shared…sorry about your allergies…glad you are able to find ways to help that you feel empowered by (herbal medicine, etc). Bunnies are nice;-) Except when they eat your lettuce!!
Hi Jan, thanks for the nice comment. I hesitated on posting this as sharing information about myself is not something that comes easy to me. It means a lot to me to read that you enjoyed it. Thankfully my bunnies stay out of the garden so no lettuce stealing for them!
Cynthia, thank you for telling us about yourself. I’d like to be your patient when you become a herbalist. Already now, I find some very useful information on your blog. My sister and I strongly believe in the power of nature and use some plants thanks to their healing qualities. Thanks again and get some sleep tonight!
Thank you so much for this nice comment Tatyana! I got a good laugh at the end too! Now you too are sounding like my husband! LOL
It’s nice getting to learn more about you!
Thank you Catherine. I am glad I ended up going through with posting this.
Cynthia,
That was a GREAT getting to know you list.
Farmer Boy is my favorite book of the series. They did all the things I want to do, so it’s fun to picture it all. I was just reading it this week again.
One of my sisters just had to move to Hawaii because of her life-threatening asthma. She is allergic to nearly everything now. But Hawaii made her feel much better. She will eventually become allergic there as well, but for a while it should be fairly good.

Thank you for this nice comment Faith and thank you again for tagging me with it. I am glad you did seeing that it pushed me out of my comfort zone some. Your poor sister! Hawaii is good for her allergies for now? That is interesting. Is it because of the different climate and flora? Moving up here to Oregon has been a horrible decision when it comes to my allergies. Don’t know what we were thinking really other than this place is just beautiful. Hope your sister does well in Hawaii.
Now that you mention it I think I just might have to re-read Farmer Boy as it has been awhile!
Congrats on the award, you deserve it. I’ve always enjoyed your blog and I had no idea how shy you are, so kudos to you for blogging at all!
Thank you Victoria.
It does help that I can hide behind my computer though! I keep trying to work up the nerve to post a picture of myself like so many other blogs do. I really hate being shy and have been my entire life. It gets rather annoying and hindering at times.
Cynthia,
I just read your reply. Would love it if I could sub to your comments, but I can’t find one of those buttons on your site.
I can imagine, with all the rain and greenery there, that it’s a bit rough on the allergies. My mom didn’t have allergies until we all moved out here to TN.
We are originally from California. When my sis was in her 30′s she began to experience the asthma and allergies. She has had MANY life threatening attacks, and even becoming allergic to the drugs they were giving her – now she must have hip replacements because the drugs reaction caused her hips to necrotize.
Anyway, they kept moving further and further north and coastal, trying to find a place without trouble, until they ended up on the beach in northern CA. But every time they moved, she’d do better for a while, then it would catch up with her.
Yes, new flora and fauna over there that her body has not had a chance to reject yet. She was advised to move into the city, without as many plants as possible, to give her longer to hold on to her health…. Seems so odd.
But I guess her system is so messed up that it rejects anything it has been around for any length of time. It doesn’t make any sense to me and I truly believe they are missing something very important, because our bodies were made to BE in nature, not out of it. But for now, this is necessary. So she is in a spartan condo in downtown Honolulu and it should be good for a while.

I am truly sorry to hear about all the trouble your sister has gone through. As someone who has lived with severe asthma and allergies my whole life I know just how life altering this can be. I wonder, has she ever seen an herbalist? It sounds as though her immune system is in overdrive and needs to be addressed. I, for one, tend to lean towards a more natural approach to my asthma and allergies which is why I ask. I hope she finds some relief soon as it cannot be fun constantly moving like that to avoid her allergies.
As to subscribing to comments by email, there should be a link in the sidebar where you will find the option to subscribe by a reader or by email. Just in case, here is the link and if this does not help please feel free to contact me as I would like to make sure all is in working order. Hope you are having a great week!
I used the link, but the subscriptions come up differently than all the other blog comments I sub to. With all my others, they comments come directly to my email. Apparently this one goes to a reader, which I don’t use.
I found this because when I subbed to the latest post you made, it took me here and I caught it.

Oh, yes. Her immune system is thrashed. I have Lupus, another sister has RA. All immune system disorders. I believe like you, but my sister is at a place now where if she came off medicine, she’d die right away.
Adult onset asthma, it’s a killer.
