While out in the garden the other morning I was admiring a certain corn stalk that is doing particularly well in the sunflower house. I was admiring its leaves when something caught my eye making me do a double take. In my excitement I took some horrible pictures that show absolutely nothing but I did get this pretty good video clip. (That is it looks good on my computer; YouTube sort of blurred it all out but I wanted to post about it anyway!) Please ignore the earwigs hiding out in the stalk. I was not trying to film those little pests but they wanted to be on video nonetheless.
I do not know much about amphibians but I think from looking it up online that this little guy is a green Pacific tree frog or a Hyla regilla. Isn’t he cute? :-) And did you notice the earwig getting mad at me at the end of the clip? Pesky earwigs are everywhere right now.
After I finished what I had to do in the garden I went back to peer at the little frog again but he was gone. The very next day though while I was out watering my container plants on the deck he jumped out of a pot I was about to water. He ended up making a getaway into my jungle of cosmos. I hope he enjoys his stay here as he is welcome as long as he likes.
What a cute little froggie. I almost couldn’t see him for a second, he was blending in with the greenery. lol
I’m a little disappointed with how blurry the clip turned out on YouTube. I feel like I should link to a picture on the internet or something so everyone can see what he looks like a little better. He is really cute though and tiny too! About the size of a nickel! -Cindy
Wow. That is something I never had in my garden – frogs. How cute.
I’ve never seen a frog in my garden before either Laurie! That is until now! I was pretty excited to see him. He can eat all the bugs he wants. -Cindy
That’s definitely a little Pacific Tree frog! Aren’t they just cute as a button in person?!?! When I put in my pond 7 years ago, I suddenly had them when I hadn’t before. You must have something very frogg-ific that has brought this one to stay in your garden.
Cindy
Hi Cindy, I was hoping someone could help id this little guy for me. He is such so cute. When he hopped away on the deck into the cosmos it was the cutest thing to watch. If I didn’t know any better I would have thought he was a grasshopper! I don’t know what could be attracting him to the garden seeing that we don’t even have our little water feature set up this year. But I am enjoying him. -Cindy
How adorably cute. I love frogs. I know in some places they are considered a pest (because of the racket they make), but I still love them.
Hi Daphne, I can imagine some might make a lot of noise- aren’t the bullfrogs suppose to be pretty loud? I thought I remember something like that. I certainly don’t hear frogs at night though. Just the chirping of crickets that maybe my little froggie is out eating. -Cindy
He looks content so I think he is happy in your garden. I would imagine living at your house is a very peaceful place to make a home. Lots of love there.
Anna, thank you for such a sweet comment. I try to make it as peaceful as I can with two older boys and a toddler! -Cindy
Are they the ones that say Ribbit, Ribbit, like in the movies? I didn’t know they are so small! Well, if they are tree frogs, I guess they would be. LOL
I don’t know about the movies Barbee but my daughter has a book about a frog and he says “ribbit, ribbit”! I was surprised at how tiny he is. Then again I have never seen one before either! -Cynthia
I followed your link to the sunflower house and was fascinated. I would love to try this but don’t have a large enough garden or any kids (mine are grown up and left home). Though I don’t suppose the kids are compulsory anyway I would enjoy this. One day, if I ever get a larger garden I would like to do this. How has it developed, do you have any pictures?
Best wishes Sylvia (England)
Hi Sylvia, It is funny that you should ask how the sunflower house is doing as I was thinking about writing another update on it in a few days. That is once the rain lets up a little and I can go out and get some decent pictures of it. I will definitely do that now that you asked so be on the look out for it in a few days. -Cynthia
Actually the frogs they are having trouble with in Hawaii (because they are newly introduced) are small frogs. Just a couple of inches long. When I travel to the Caribbean it takes a couple of days to get used to the cacophony of the little frogs. They are really LOUD.
I can’t imagine what that must sound like! Not exactly the most pleasant sound to fall asleep to I am sure. I keep meaning to find a sound clip on what this little guy sounds like. Then maybe I will be able to tell if I am hearing him over all the crickets which are continously chirping right this very instant. -Cynthia

I have those little froggies in my daylily blooms. Back in June I took a photo of one. I love them. Thanks for the video.~~Dee
How cute that they like to hang out in you daylilies! -Cynthia
