The Joy Scarf

by Cynthia on October 28, 2008

Joy ScarfLast week I (finally) finished the scarf I was making for my contribution to Kathryn’s wonderful cause that she started on her blog, Plant Whatever Brings You Joy. I was so worried I would not be able to complete it in time with how this month has been for me and my family. I am not one that takes commitments lightly though and I was bound and determined to finish it in time even if I was barely scraping by when it comes to getting it to Kathryn on time.

I have never showed off my knitting here on this blog before so I am kind of going out on a limb by sharing it. I am rather pleased with how it turned out. Even though I am my own worst critic I still think it turned out nice. It is made with a soft merino wool that I hope will keep a young girl happy and warm when she wears it. If you would like to read more about this scarf drive and all the hard work Kathryn has done in pulling it off please visit her site by following this link.

Wow, that’s gorgeous. It reminds me of the wonderful things that my grandma used to make. Got any pointers for a newbie?

Hi Cinj,
Well, just how much of a newbie are you and what kind of pointers are you looking for? :) Thank you for the compliment. I’m so happy I was able to finish it in time! -Cynthia

Hi, Cynthia, Your scarf is beautiful!I can’t wait to receive and add to the growing stack coming in from all over the States and the UK and Canada! Thank you so very much for letting your readers know about the Scarf Initiative, and for participating! I know with life as busy as it is it’s hard to make time for a knitting project. Lovely and thank you. Kathryn xoxo

Thank you Kathryn for all of the hard work you put in just to be able to pull this off. Lending my knitting needles and yarn was the least I could do. I’m happy I could be apart of this. -Cynthia

It is beautiful. She will be a lucky little girl to have a garment made with love.

Mother Nature’s Garden,
Thank you so much. :) I enclosed a note to go with it that stated it was made with 100% wool and 100% love. :) -Cynthia

How pretty! I especially like the slightly ruffled edges!

Hi Rita,
I’m happy you noticed the ruffles! I designed those on purpose to make the scarf look pretty and a little bit more girly. I figure every girl wants something pretty to wear. :) -Cynthia

Lovely! Just like your garden. :) I’m excited to see what other stuff you make this winter, as your hands turn to knitting rather than gardening.

Hi Karen :)
I’ve got lots to share if you want to see more knitting! When I’m not gardening I’m knitting so I always have something going on. In fact I’m in the process of planning something big when it comes to my knitting. But I’m not ready to let the cat out of the bag just yet so that is all I am going to say for now! ;) -Cynthia

I think the ripples at the scarf ends are so pretty. And, the colours are so pretty and feminine. Wasn’t that a lovely project to work on! I hadn’t knit in years and forgot just how soothing it was.

Hi Barbara,
Thank you for such a nice comment. :) I just loved how all of us garden bloggers can together and made scarves for this project. I love to knit myself. In fact if I’m not out in the garden or at my computer then you can find me knitting! :) -Cynthia

It’s a beautiful scarf Cynthia. I don’t know how to knit so I am always impressed with these handmade works of art.

Thank you Racquel. :) I knit about as much as I garden. Come winter time though when the garden is taking its nap I really start to knit up a storm! -Cynthia

That scarf is beautiful! What type of yarn did you use? I love the stripe effect. And the ruffle is perfect, too.

Thank you for the compliment! :) The yarn is Patons Classic in the Rosewood colorway. I like the ruffle too but now looking back on it when I designed it I wish I had made the ruffle a little bit fuller. I was afraid it would be too full so I opted for less but now I wish I had stuck with more! lol :) -Cynthia
