Yesterday the rain clouds magically parted in the afternoon and the sun came out long enough for me to take a nice stroll through the garden with my camera in hand. There really is not a whole lot in bloom right now but I was able to take a few pictures for today which happens to be Bloomin’ Tuesday.

This first picture is of some Borage that is growing wild all around my compost piles. It is quite pretty as the flowers are both blue and pink. Some type of mutation I suppose but all the borage growing over there is blooming like this. I have seen blue borage flowers, pink borage flowers, and white borage flowers but never have I seen any both blue and pink. I never would have even noticed them if it wasn’t for this little quest to find flowers in bloom!
The next picture isn’t exactly a flower but it does look nice. This large rock is sitting along the back end of our yard and almost overnight the moss has “bloomed” all over it. In the right hand corner you can see yet another wild blackberry creeping up on the rock. Sigh, yanking up the wild blackberry never ends!

This final picture is actually of my neighbor’s Japanese maple. I saw it yesterday and thought I had better get its picture while I still can because as you can see it is dropping its pretty yellow leaves. This maple is so beautiful this time of year. It is a Coral Bark Japanese maple (Acer palmatum ‘Sango Kaku’) and once it drops all of its leaves you are left with its beautiful red limbs. It really looks nice when everything else is so dark and dreary. In a few more weeks I will post another picture of it once it starts to show its bark.

That’s all I have to share for today’s Bloomin’ Tuesday. Be sure to visit Jean’s blog and check out all of the other Blooming Tuesday posts!

Beautiful, fall color! I love the rock, and the moss just makes it that much more beautiful.
Thank you Nancy, I am trying to enjoy the fall colors while they are still here as I have noticed they are fading fast. The moss on the other hand has just begun! lol -Cynthia
Gorgeous!
Yes enjoy the sun while we can…in 5 minutes its gonna be raining again! I’m starting to feel like a duck, lol!
I have borage in my garden also. Planted it for my hubby’s bees and not it is everywhere, I don’t mind though if it keeps the bees happy!!!
Hi Inadvertent Farmer,
I have borage everywhere as well but I am just like you and don’t mind it a bit as it sure does draw the bumblebees to my garden! -Cynthia
Those borage blooms are quite unusual with the pink & blue combined. Pretty. I like the moss on the rock too.
Hi Racquel,
-Cynthia
I have never seen Borage do this before and I have grown it many times now. There are actually quite a few borage plants out by the compost that look like this. Maybe it has something to do with the black gold??
I love the moss on the rock! I’m always fascinated by it. A friend wanted to grow some and read to put some in a blender with buttermilk and spread mixture where you wanted it to grow! Thanks for the info on the Japanese Maple. Can’t wait to see it again. Jean
Hi Jean,
-Cynthia
I once tried the moss in a blender thing when I lived in S.California and wanted my terra cotta pots to look like they had a patina. Now where I live in the Pacific Northwest moss happens to get on EVERYTHING this time of year and I laugh when I remember trying to encourage it to appear.
I didn’t realize borage bloomed so beautifully. I don’t think I’ve had it before. At least not blooming. It’s been raining here two days. Which means I’m stuck inside and not too happy about it. I thought I was yanking up wild blackberry bushes in my neighbor’s yard when it was poison ivy. What an education this has been!
Brenda
Poor Brenda! I read about your poison ivy run in on your blog last week. I have never experienced it before and after reading your story I hope I never do! I have been stuck inside for awhile now myself due to the rain. That was why it was so nice to get outside when the rain took a short lived break (it has been raining all day today. *sigh*) -Cynthia
I love the rock with the moss, so pretty.
Thank you Darla! Mother Nature at her best!
-Cynthia
That pink/blue borage is wacky! Nice close-up photo, too. Dig the mossy rock and that variety of Japanese maple is top on my list of “must have” trees if I can find the right spot.
Hi Karen,
I think that particular one would replace your crabapple nicely! -Cynthia
I was thinking of you when I took the picture of the Japanese maple.
Hi Cynthia,
I love your Borage. I have read that it is good to deture some insects that harm other plants. I can not remember if it is edible or not. I will have to look it up again. How wonderful to have new blooms. All your photos are wonderful. I plan to look for some of this next year.
Have a great week.
Grammy
Hi Grammy,
Thanks for visiting my blog today.
Borage is in fact edible. I did a previous post on it a few months back and you can get to it here if you are interested. I really do like this herb even though it does not seem to like me as I mentioned in that prior post! -Cynthia
I loved this post! I don’t know that I’ve ever seen (or even heard of) borage. What an incredible bloom! Loved the moss covered rock — so beautiful — wish I had one in my yard, but we just don’t have enough humidity here (Colorado) for moss covered rocks. The Japanese Maple is gorgeous! Beautiful backdrop for the maple too!
Thank you so much Suzanne for leaving such a nice comment.
In the above comment I supplied a link to a previous post I wrote about borage if you are interested in learning a bit more about it. Thanks for visiting my blog today!
-Cynthia
I love the color of that Japanese Maple Tree. We don’t get to see that color here in So California, only in pictures!
I also like the moss on that rock! So pretty!
Thanks for sharing these pictures on Bloomin’ Tuesday!

Hi Ann,
-Cynthia
Thanks for your compliments and thanks for visiting my blog today.
Cynthia, lovely post and pictures. I wonder is the borage flowers that colours because of the cold, cold weather can bring different colours out in plants, as in autumn leaves. Everyone has been commenting on one of the best autumns for colour this year, which might explain why you haven’t noticed it before.
Best wishes Sylvia (England)
Thank you Sylvia,
I really can’t explain the unusual borage flowers out by my compost. I have grown borage with blue flowers and borage with pink flowers but I have never seen them with both! It is actually very pretty. I wonder if it could be some kind of cross pollination that has happened. -Cynthia
That borage seems to resemble a delphinium with its double colours. Very pretty. And, have you ever wondered by Japanese Maples shed their leaves in such an orderly fashion? Every other tree sends their leaves everywhere, no matter how big or small.
Hi Barbara,
I love the pile of leaves under the tree in the above picture. And I am so happy I took it on Monday as we had a very big storm yesterday (Thursday) and the leaves are now all gone!
Winter is fast approaching… -Cynthia
I never thought about the way Japanese maples shed their leaves before but you are right!- they are rather tidy aren’t they.
I always love seeing your pictures. The maple shot is my fave from this post, because it captures the various depths of things in the background. Good job!
EG
Thank you so much EG! Your comment has me blushing! I try to get good shots for this site and it always pleases me when someone likes what I do.
-Cynthia
I have some seeds ready, stop on by and see if you are interested. Free.
Thanks for the heads up Darla.
I’ll stop by and check it out here in a minute. -Cynthia
