Melting Snow

Melting Snow

I took this picture today while my daughter was napping. I just happened to look outside and notice that the melting snow made my garden look like we had touched down on the moon! Weird! What a big difference from just a few days ago. On Monday there was still at least a foot and a half of snow out there. The weather has been so crazy. Yesterday was 30(!) degrees warmer than just a couple weeks ago and today is about 15 degrees cooler than yesterday. What a winter already!

We’ve had a perfectly nice couple of days, in fact about a week. Now it’s going to get cold. For us, though, that doesn’t usually mean snow. In a way it always made me feel cozy inside when it snowed in Oklahoma years ago. But now that I’m over 50 all I can think about is what happens if I slip and fall down in it!

Hi Brenda,
It is nice and cozy at first but then I think it starts to get old. I especially hate the slushy stuff once it begins to melt! -Cynthia

I love photos with patterns like that. It makes you wonder how it forms.

We have really been on a rollercoaster for weather too, but I think of that as typical Boston weather. You never know what is going to happen. One February about a decade ago we had weather in the 80s. Usually it is freezing at that time of the year. Tomorrow night we get more snow. I wonder how much it will be.

Hi Daphne,
I did not know that Boston could have such fluctuating weather. We have certainly had a roller coaster winter so far. At least is a break from the rain, rain, rain! -Cynthia

That is pretty crazy weather. We don’t have any melting going on around here, but we did get up to a “balmy” 20 today. Temps are supposed to dip back down to below zero after this weekend.

Hi Cinj,
“A balmy 20″ lol! that is down right freezing to me. You all are tough to live up there with temps like that all the time! I’m a big native Southern Californian baby! -Cynthia

It does make an unusual pattern when it melts. No snow here yet this year. Personally I could live without it and be perfectly happy. It’s pretty at first and then just becomes messy. Plus people here don’t know how to drive in it. :)

Here, here Racquel! I don’t like when it becomes messy either. Then it is such plain ugly. Considering it is only January I wonder if we have seen the last of it for this year…. -Cynthia

Looks like nature’s version of a game of Twister or something! Wacky. Glad it is finally going away for you guys. All melted here, thanks to the rainy deluge. Hey, did you get that link for the cosmos(esque) fabric I saw? It totally made me think of you! :)

Hi Karen,
Yeah, the rain really made it melt over here too and fast! I did check out the link. Thanks! It sure is some cute fabric. It would make a great tote for some yarn! :) -Cynthia

Sunday night we had a good snow, but it was supposed to warm up some by morning. I looked out before daylight on Monday and said, “our snow has poka dots!” Similar melting pattern as you noticed, only not quite as progressed. It was a very distinct pattern. That’s it now, right?

Hi Paula,
Sure makes you wonder why it melted like that doesn’t it? I certainly hope that is it for now! -Cynthia

What a pretty pattern of snow. We’re having wacky weather also!

Hi Rita,
I’m glad I was able to capture it in a photo since it was just so neat to look at. By the next day it was all just about gone. Melted so fast with all the rain! -Cynthia

It’s interesting to see what unusual things happen when we take time to really look. Those circles could also be ‘crop circles’!! But I like the idea of the moon the best, too:)

Hi Jan,
I never thought of the crop circles but they do kind of look like that too. Guess you can call them snow circles! :) -Cynthia

Crazy, isn’t it? I still have mounds of snow next to my house where it slid off the room and buried some of my shrubs. Meanwhile the rest of the property is ankle-deep in mud.

Hi Molly,
We still have a few large mounds around certain areas, like the side of the house where the snow really piled up. It amazed me how quickly the rain melted most of it away though. -Cynthia
