Flowering Trees, I Adore Thee

by Cynthia on May 7, 2009

All around where I live one can find trees bursting forth with blooms showcasing Mother Nature at her finest. I absolutely love it too! So pretty are all these trees that I did not grow up around. They are not that familiar to me but how I do love them! Flowering apples, cherries, dogwoods, and pears bring me to a stop and cause me to stare at them with all their beauty.

While out and about last weekend I kept camera in hand in hopes of snapping a few quick shots of these trees that have me in awe. I did not capture as many as I would have liked but I thought I would share a few of the ones I thought turned out pretty.

I am not too happy with the way the below picture turned out- I took it in a hurry as I was by a busy street with a toddler at my side but I love the combination of these two plants together and wanted to share them here.

Lilac together with a Dogwood

The lilac looked so beautiful growing up through that dogwood. From the looks of them both they have been sharing each others space for quite awhile. I am obsessed with lilacs and dogwoods at the moment thanks to this pairing I stumbled upon.

This next picture is of a flowering bigleaf maple (Acer macrophyllum). These big guys are everywhere by me. I mean everywhere! Until moving up here I had no idea their flowers could be so pretty and as the picture shows bees seem to love them too.

Bigleaf Maple Flowers

Finally, I am saving the best picture for last; soft and perfectly pink apple blossoms. I want an apple tree just so I can view these blossoms every spring!

Apple Blossom

(All of these images can be clicked on to view at their full size. If anyone would like to use one for their desktop wallpaper please feel free as I am using the apple blossom picture for just that and it looks very pretty.)

Is there a particular flowering tree that has always grabbed your attention? Jacarandas will always remind me of home but I find myself growing more and more fond of the flowering trees found here in Oregon.

You took beautiful pictures. I love all of them. I would say that crab apples, apples and dogwoods are my favorite spring bloomers. I hope you can find a place for an apple tree, the scent they have fills the yard.

Wonderful images. I just came in earlier this week from photographing the bigleaf maples and dogwoods as well. It looks like our springs are on the same schedule!

In my neighborhood it’s pink dogwoods. They are EVERYWHERE and so gorgeous! For a while I really wanted one in my yard too, but at this point I’m just happy to look at everyone elses. :)
